Kansas City Chiefs Confirm Alleged Abuse Allegations Involving Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in communication with the league office.

The team did not mention Rice by name in their statement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

The woman, who likewise did not name the athlete directly, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has two children with Rice, whom the team drafted in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Dallas highway that left several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs went with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a ten-year span.
